A suggestion when planning for a frameless glass enclosure

Frameless glass enclosures are quite the rage in bathroom remodeling, but there are some things to think about before the glass is installed. If you plan to do a “traditional” mud base and tiled walls, then there is one suggestion that can save a lot of headaches. Consider using a “one piece” cap for the threshold. For a one plane opening, the cap can be truly one piece. For multiple planes, the cap will follow the opening. This means you may end up with 2, 3 or even 4 pieces. Many customers of ours have used granite, marble or even Corian as a cap. It is easier to gently pitch the cap to the inside of the base. It also eliminates many seams that a tile cap would have, and provide a flat uniform surface to anchor the glass. You can also match the cap to a corner seat, ½ wall caps, or even vanity tops. It really is a win-win.
